Happy Thursday

I've been wanting to blog, but just don't have the time! My internet is very limited. I finally got pictures uploaded to our albums. There is a page in my sidebar that has links to our photo albums. Or click HERE. There are two albums for February. One is "finding the beauty" ~ I was encouraged by a friend's blog to find the beauty here, it's easy to miss it here, especially since we don't want to be here.

What are these flowers called? I don't know why I always forget their name!

We went to the beach finally! In February LOL. The water was cold, but the kids ended up going in to play with the waves. We saw some sea life in the tide pools. The tide was in so we didn't have much to see, but we still had fun! It was a fun family time and field trip. Love that benefit to homeschooling.

Gram's is the same. She seemed more normal yesterday. We were watching AFV (funny videos) on TV and for once she was actually laughing and reacting to some of the videos. Usually it seemed like she put up with watching it because the kids like it. She also got a new bed frame yesterday. The old one had to be hand cranked to go up or down, with the new one you just press a button.

We finally got some rain last night/early this morning! It's sunny now, but I believe it is going to rain some more this weekend. It's a nice break from the heat.

Hope you have a great day!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Hope you all had a nice Valentine's Day!

I gave the kids their Valentines this morning, they also had some to give us that they made. We did some online schooling at the library till lunchtime. Picked Grams some pink Gerbera Daisies for our visit. Came home and cleaned up some of her flower beds. And had homemade chocolate pudding and homemade marshmallows (with strawberry juice) for dessert.

I'm not a big fan of hearts for decorating. Cutesy country decorating ruined hearts, teddy bears, doilies, etc for me and many others. In fact I've never been big on hearts even for V-day, I probably only have a handful of V-day decorations. My kids love V-day, thanks to yearly classroom Valentine parties, but mommy didn't like decorating for it. Which is interesting since I love to decorate for all the other holidays... I just had such an aversion to hearts! Keep them things away from me!

This year I have been feeling a little different.

I had the urge to cut out paper hearts from a book I got at a thrift store. The book was a very boring read, so I don't feel bad ripping out it's pages for crafting purposes. Cookie cutters come in handy to trace patterns. (I am not skilled in cutting out hearts freehand.)

This hangs in my work area. It's slightly stuffed under the center heart to give it a little weight for hanging.

I made these little stuffed heart bowl fillers. I'm amazed I managed to get them finished before today. I've never tried to make hearts before, boy were they a challenge! One of these was hand sewn, the rest are machine stitched. Sewing these on the machine was the challenge. I need more practice I guess!

Our homeschool group had a Valentine exchange on Monday. Anabelle made all of the Valentine cards! I cut out lots of hearts on red card-stock for her and she did the rest. She had a blast!

What we planned to give out, we couldn't find, so that was a bummer. Thankfully we found some cute silly straws instead. (I'm not comfortable handing out non-organic sweets. Sadly it's slim pickings for that stuff around here.)

Anabelle also decorated a box (both sides of course!) to collect her Valentines in at homeschool park day.

The kids had fun handing out Valentines and seeing what they got!

And lastly I leave you with: Watercolor Hearts by Anabelle.

Stitching & Banana Chip Muffins

I pulled out an old pattern I have (I have lots! Who doesn't? LOL)

"COUNTRY STITCHERIES" By Sue Allemand (2002)

I first did the chicken, cuz I like chickens. I omitted the "welcome" that is stitched on the original pattern, as I don't like an over abundance of "welcome" things in my house.

Then later I decided I should make the other two patterns as well, a sunflower and a pineapple. I chose to color them in with coloring pencils (the chicken is colored too!) I plan to make another set without the coloring.

All three are finished with coffee staining and rusty safety pins (to attach the homespun). The chicken is the only one I added a little bit of cinnamon to when coffee staining.

I stuffed these snowman pillow ornaments with fabric scraps. They were made to go on our Christmas tree, but I procrastinated about stuffing...

In the kitchen we made banana chip muffins. They tasted awesome warm out of the oven!

I used Bob's Red Mill stone ground wheat flour and some quinoa flour. Nobody noticed that I used coconut sugar in place of organic sugar.

Our homeschool group is going to have a Valentine exchange so Sidekick and I will be making some Valentines. No store bought Valentines for us!
